Basic HTML using Notepad, with Blog Report

When trying to create a web page, the process begins with just simply creating a folder titled 'HTML' and subsequently creating a sub-folder within the 'HTML' folder, titled 'images'. The 'images' folder will contain all the pictures that are intended to be used in the web page, which is about to be created.

To create the web page, all HTML coding were typed into Window's Notepad. This is where the web page structure and content are created. At first, it was rather simple as I have learned about HTML coding in my Foundation year and also had to create a similar web page for a previous assignment.

My coding knowledge was a little rusty and having to recall certain tags and how to type them out proved to be a small barrier at first. But, the Internet was a big help as searching for online tutorials on Google was simple and very efficient. It was from these very simple tutorials that I recalled how to code colors, tables, marquees, and code other simple tags. Also, Ms. Sha's classes helped in a big way too as her tutorials and examples were very clear on how each tag enables a certain function after it is coded. The disadvantage of using Google to find references was being linked to tutorials that were very hard to comprehend or very low in needed information. Having to sieve through the countless websites consumed too much time.

To me, debugging the HTML codes was very simple and easy. The only difficulty I faced was having to type and retype the codes over and over again. This is because I tend to miss out certain characters that are crucial to debugging the HTML codes for I am a slow typist. The only other difficulty I can think off was having to adjust the width and height of all the pictures in the web page. Having the pictures have the same size without distorting the image seemed a little tedious and frustrating.

My search for a suitable web hosting server was a short process as I was introduced to a few servers by friends. In the end, my partner decided to settle on Bravehost. To me, Bravehost is very user unfriendly. I tried uploading my files by myself at first and it took me ages to navigate through the website. It was complicated to say the least.

Bravehost's File Transfer Protocol was hard to understand because the page took ages to load and therefore made it seem like there were only two options that lead to dead ends. After mucking around the website, I finally managed to upload my HTML codes. Little did I know that I also had to create a separate image file and upload all my pictures into that file.

Despite its grievances, I suppose I still should be thankful that I managed to figure everything out in less than an hour or so and everything uploaded without any problems. The server immediately downloaded all my files and that would be Bravehost's plus point.

When it was time to create a blog, it was hassle free. I am a loyal Blogger user and therefore, it was no surprise that I chose Blogger yet again to create another blog. Blogger is very user friendly and the website guides the user very easily through the process of creating a blog. The only difficulty faced was having to come up with a name for the URL and the blog itself. Blogger's templates are simple, stylish and the functions are not complicated so, it makes blogging very easy to do. I have about 5 blogs and all of which are hosted on Blogger. Needless to say, my experience in creating a blog was rather enjoyable.

To conclude, the biggest lesson I learned was learning how to use a web hosting server. I believe it was hard for me because it was my first time using it and learning from scratch just made it even harder than it should have been. HTML coding was relatively easy but now I know a little more about certain tags and about tags that I never knew existed before. I suppose I would have changed certain HTML codes and brushed up on adding applets to make the web page look a little more interesting and perhaps easy on the eyes. Also, I probably would have chosen to use Webs.com as a web hosting server because, unlike Bravehost, it has no advertisements. My choice for a creating a blog would never change. I am a Blogger nut.
